Brace for impact…

Posted by bretthperkins on September 22, 2008

So, this entire weekend, I have had overwhelming feelings of gloom and doom… Mostly, I believe, it is in anticipation for today’s market. While, currently, I really do not have any assets in the market, I know that much of our day-to-day lives are impacted by what happens on Wall Street… So we wait. We wait for a resolution to the current crisis. If the trends of Thursday and Friday of last week continue, and the mood is optimistic regarding the Gov’t bail-out/resucue plan (Which I have read, and don’t particularly like, but really see no way around it) then we should be fine, however, I believe that the weekend has allowed much thought, and people will be pessimistic today…

I have a feeling deep in my gut that the Financial Markets are going to TANK today… I just hope this crash, which began last week doesn’t lead to what I fear is going to happen: An all out failure of the financial system. And I do not see this remaining an American problem. Damn the government’s lack of regulation, damn the piss-poor decision making, damn the greedy public, damn the greedy bank officers, and damn the lobbyists. Thank you ALL for putting us here where we are: face-to-face to the next Great Depression. With any luck, and perhaps Faith… we will not end up like our fellow countrymen 75 years ago.

I don’t make statements like this often: Pray for the economy. (I know, I know… but that is all I think we can do at this point.)

10 more reasons I cannot support McCain | Palin

Posted by bretthperkins on September 10, 2008

10 – Stem cell research – They let religious ideals interfere with medical advancements that can potentially unlock major advances in treatment for MANY health issues that affect countless millions of people.  There is no scientific reason to abandon this research.

9 – Abortion – While I believe that there are many better alternatives to abortion, it is not up to the government to take that decision out of the hands of the mother.  McCain and Palin wish to abolish all forms of abortion, even for rape cases and incest/child abuse cases.

8 – Marriage – Again, for solely religious reasons, McCain and Palin will strictly define marriage as a union between one man and one woman.  This is a huge step in the wrong direction.

7 – Spending – McCain and Palin wish to control spending and fiscal responsibility, but with McCain touting Bush’s irresponsible policies and Palin guilty of having more federal earmark money per person that ANY other governor in the country, I find it difficult to swallow that they will actually change anything.

6 – World Relations – McCain has consistently backed up President Bush in foreign policy.  We are doing nothing but building a new generations that will hate this country.  Yeah, that will TOTALLY make us safer.

5 – Missle Defense and a return to the Cold War – McCain supports a comprehensive missile defense system against Russia.  While that sounds like a great idea, make note that one of the KEY factors behind why the USSR and USA did not have a nuclear exchange was because our deterrent (nuclear capability) was equal to theirs.  In simple terms, there would be no real winner.  With this system, the “scale” would be tipped in our favor causing the Russians to feel much more desperate making an exchange MUCH MORE LIKELY.  I for one do not want ANY kind of nuclear exchange ANYWHERE.  Period!

4 – Tax – McCain would like to continue the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy and placing that burden on the middle class.  In no way, economically, does this make sense.  I do not think that the solution is taxing the rich and giving to the poor, either, but lets face it, who needs the money more?

3 – Religion – In general, this ticket will legislate based on a religion and not upon what is good for America.  While some Christians argue that America was founded as a Christian nation, they fail to realize that we were in fact founded BY Christian as a religiously independent society; the decisions on religion were then and should always be based on an individual’s will.  Any legislation that comes straight from the Bible is irresponsible and violates the logic and reason of the Constitution and its mandate that Religion and Government remain separate entities.

2 – Protection of children from Sex Offenders – McCain and Palin do no support legislation that would teach children how to detect and report potential or active sex offenders.  They label this as “Sex Education” and believe that we should not be teaching it, yet on their website, they state that will ‘Protect children from … predators.’  How?  You cannot protect without teaching.

1 – Energy – John McCain says that he will enforce existing legislation…  Wow, that is change.  He also supports more ‘research’ into alternative fuels.  The fact is that those policies will not break our addiction to oil.  We need sharp and fast change in this sector.  Bureaucracy and research will not change things fast enough.  Complete and comprehensive energy reform needs to happen.  And it needs to happen NOW!!!
