Deloitte: Day Two

Posted by bretthperkins on May 29, 2008

While not as exciting as yesterday, today was very informative.  With each day I learn more and more about what I will be doing for the company.  It is interesting the kinds of things that the company has done, and it just makes me more excited about the directions that I can go within such a large organization.  We got a lot more detailed into the systems at Deloitte and are learning more about the culture.  We still have not begun discussing the specifics about what my team will be doing which is a little disconcerting, but I know that we will get there.  I had a chance to talk to an associate from the Pacific Southwest Region within FAS (Financial Advisory Services) and she just kept going on about how HUGE this part of Deloitte is.  I feel very fortunate that my colleagues and I have been invited to be a part of this new service.  I really don’t have much more to add.  Tomorrow and Friday will no doubt be more of the same, so I am prolly not gonna post about Deloitte again until Monday.  I am really looking forward to Monday, though, as we finally move into the EDSC (Electronic Discovery Solution Center).  I can’t wait to see our new state-of-the-art facility.  It is the only one like it in the world, from what we are told.  :)   *chills!*  Anywho…  I guess that is it for that…

I am meeting Randy for dinner tomorrow night, which should be fun…  I actually enjoy talking with him one-on-one as he loses that silly ditzy thing that he does and we actually have good conversation.  So that will be great.  Carl and I are putting together some celebratory plans for Friday night which, if they are anything like our night at Beale Street in Memphis, should prove to be very, very fun.  We’re gonna celebrate our new careers and graduation.  Its a little late, but we wanted to wait until he and I, as well as a few other ppl that we graduted with actually started their jobs.  I plan on inviting Eric and whoever else wants to go, we’re going to have a good time.  :)

I guess that is all…  I am not feeling to well so I will prolly finish up my De-homework and call it a night.

Deloitte: Day One

Posted by bretthperkins on May 28, 2008

Today was kinda awesome!!!  I got to work this morning about an hour early, GO ME!!!  :p  It was a typical orientation type day, you know, paperwork, videos, etc…  but meeting the people that I going to be working with was awesome!!!  And the managers all seem really nice.  This place doesn’t seem up-tight at all, and its all got this relaxed feel to it, but you still know where you are supposed to fit in in the grand scheme of things.  I actually got some information about what I will be actually doing, and it sounds like very interesting work, and it will change up frequently, which is a HUGE plus.  Its weird, though…  Its SO different from the way things work at Wal-Mart.  Its like it all just kinda happens when it happens, and that is all just fine.  At Wal-Mart, from day one, it was hectic…  When I was told that working outside of retail is a different world, I didn’t quite know what that meant, but now, I do.  :)   Anywho, they set us all up today, and we got all this nifty stuff, but nothing compares to the company laptop we all got.  They were all like, “We are waiting on your laptops… Oh here they are!  Here you go!  Have fun!”  I smiled…  and then played.  These things have EVERYTHING on them, development suites, Office, access to their intranet, etc…  I would go on, but I  may have revealed way too much already.  Haha!  Anywho, I am really looking forward to tomorrow and learning more about Deloitte and what they are all about.  I have to say the my first impression is good, and I feel very fortunate to have been given this opportunity.  I hope this career lasts at least as long as my last.

Almost time

Posted by bretthperkins on May 25, 2008

Ok, so I have really enjoyed this week.  I went up with Tai to Indy, then came home Tuesday.  Wednesday, I went out with Eric and some other peeps to Play and had prolly the best time I have had there in YEARS!!!  OMG, we did some outrageous stuff that night.  SO MUCH FUN…  Then, on Friday morning, I bought a car.  To say it is an improvement over my Lumina would be the mother-of-all-understatements.  I bought a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu, Brand New.  Its SO freaking beautiful!!!  As soon as I get my stupid photobucket to link back up with my blog, I will post pics.  Until then, check out my Myspace or Facebook.  I should have some pics up there pretty soon.  Anywho, its a 4-door sedan, Dark Grey, Beautiful interior with chrome accents, chrome accents on the exterior as well.  Oh, just SO pretty!!!  It’s got XM built in and all kinds of little things that make me go crazy!!!  I have settled on a name, with a little help from Eric, and her name is Miranda.  Oh, just pure sexiness!!!

Today was a good day as well.  I went to Alicia’s wedding with Eric, met up with Victoria and Jared there, as well as some peeps that I have not seen in a very long time, Drew, DaMichael, Justin, Joe…  Anywho, it was a typical wedding ceremony, but the reception was just all kinds of fun!!!  The played some decent music, and of course your throw backs to yesteryear.  All in all, though, I had a good time.

Deloitte starts on Tuesday, and I am a little anxious to get started.  I am excited about the change of direction, but moving from something that I have grown SO comfortable with (Wal-Mart) to something that is foreign to me is a little scary.  Will I like it?  Can I do it?  Will I fit in?  How will people react to my unique personality and work-style?  How will I deal with the managers?  And the questions continue for days….  I do know that I am confident in my skills and knowledge, and I am comfortable enough with people that I do not feel as though there will be any problems, but until I actually get in there and experience their culture and their environment, I will not be any less trepidacious.

With that, I think I will play on the net for a few, then call it a night.
